Julia Trotti

My name is Julia Trotti and I am a twenty year old cat-lover from Sydney, Australia. I drink too much coffee during the day and collect sugar packets in a jar.

I discovered photography when I was young, I borrowed my parents point and shoot camera and went on a walk to take photos of everything I saw. From there, I would come home from school and take self portraits and photos of my sister around the house and at the local park. I just fell in love with it.

For me a perfect day is a day where I woke up before the sun rose, to head down to a beautiful location for a shoot with amazing talented people with wonderful clothes.

For the future, I am hoping to be shooting campaigns for brands around the world one day; in my style of fashion, fun and free.

Who is the person behind the photos?

Hi, I am Valentina Castro. I was born in Venezuela 26 years ago and moved to Barcelona 4 years ago to study liberal arts and photography. I think my life is pretty normal and so I am. I love animals, friends, music, my boyfriend, nature and i don't eat meat, but I suppose this are things I like, not who I am.

How did you discover photography and what makes you keep on doing it?
I discovered photography when I started a course of developing and analogue process. I had a camera that a friend lent me so that´s how I began. Soon it became a way of capturing my life and the life of people that is around me, now is my memory and a ticket to go back to certain moments, to remember.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a photographer, and what differentiates it from a good photo taker?
I think a photographer is "obsessed" with some subject, can be anything, but is a way of living. I also think a photographer must have the interest of learning the technique, about history, about other´s people work, and by this I don´t mean you have to go to a school, all this things can be self thought. I think has to do with the depth of knowledge, you can be a photographer and take "bad" pictures and you can be a person who takes wonderful pictures but not be a photographer.
Tell us two bad habbits you would like not have
Most of the days I prefer to sleep than have a proper breakfast and I don´t drink as much water as I should. Two really bad habits but I have a lot more!
What are your hobbies besides photography?
I love plants, I have quiet a lot on my terrace and I like to take care of them. I knit a lot as makes me feel really relaxed and forget about the world for some time. I love to travel and go to the park with my dogs. And also reading and listening to music all day long on my days off.

What´s the furthest you´ve ever travel?
Well, from Venezuela the furthest i have been is Berlin or England I think.
What do you expect from your photographic future?
I really take pictures because makes feel alive, because I think is a treasure to go back to moments and places. I expect to feel this way on the future. Of course I think like everyone I would like to live doing something I love, so to work in magazines or to exhibit would be a dream.
